KOSMOS / RESIDENTIAL CONSTRUCTION

Structural alterations

Openings and structural changes need a planned sequence. Temporary support, permanent steelwork and the surrounding masonry should be considered together.

Plan the work as a whole.

Structural design and temporary works requirements must be established by appropriately qualified professionals. Access, bearings, connections and inspections should be included in the agreed scope.

Care at every interface.

KOSMOS coordinates site work around the engineer's design and construction sequence. Original photographs show temporary propping, installed steel members and bolted details, without making a certification claim from an image.

Questions before you build.

Can a wall be removed without an engineer?

Do not assume a wall is non-structural from appearance alone. Obtain the appropriate assessment and design before an opening is formed.

What affects the programme?

Access, temporary support, steel manufacture, inspections and making good can all affect the work sequence.
